Aya Higashi | Character design

Aya Higashi is a 15-year-old second-generation Japanese-American parahuman in the universe of Worm, the web serial by John C. "Wildbow" McCrae. Set in a world where individuals develop powers through traumatic events, Aya's ability allows her to craft animated dolls from various materials, each imbued with unique abilities. Initially overwhelmed by her powers, she becomes detached and megalomaniacal but gradually seeks redemption. Her obsession with doll-making leads her to reconstruct herself into a porcelain ball-jointed doll. To conceal her identity, she dons a layered costume inspired by the traditional Japanese juni-hitoe, blending her heritage with her need for secrecy.

Probably one of my biggest single character creation jobs in recent times. It was such a pleasure to bring this character to life alongside my client and to develop all these ideas!
